Call me nuts, crazy, off my rocker but I’m a superstitious person and LOVE it! Some people think I take things a little to far but hey that’s me and to each their own.
Well as you know today is New Year’s Eve and the whole world is celebrating the final day of 2013 and looking forward to welcome in 2014. With the welcoming of a new year comes tons of superstitions, some fun, funny, wacky, ridiculous and just plain crazy. So, I thought it would be fun for me to share some of my favorites with you.
Here goes…
1. Kissing at midnight. Kiss someone dear to you at midnight, this will ensure affection for the next 12 months. If you happen to be alone at midnight, kissing the dog or cat would certainly work…PUCKER UP 😉
2. Don’t cry on New Years day, this could bring unhappiness for the next year.
3. Open windows and doors for a few minutes at midnight as this will let out all the bad from the previous year, allow the old year to exit and the new year to enter.
4. Eat Lucky Foods! For example lentils are said to bring good luck and money your way for the coming year. Others lucky foods are grapes, pork, black eyed-peas and collards greens.
5. Do not remove anything from your home on New Year’s Day (not even garbage) because it is said that if you do you will be losing things all year.
6. Make lots of noise right after midnight (like banging pots and pans) is said to help ward off evil spirits.
7. Underwear! Now this is a favorite of mine haha. Ok so did you know that different colour underwear will bring you different things for the coming year? For example wearing yellow underwear attracts positive energy and a year of prosperity for the new yea, while red underwear will bring a year of romance and passion. Blue underwear is said to ring a year of good health, green a year of better luck that the previous year, white for a year of peace, joy and happiness and pink for luck in love. In Italy they believed red underwear will bring you luck as well as make you fertile (and they would throw the underwear away on January 2nd). If you happen to have polka dots or circles on your underwear, even better as the round shape symbolizes coins/money.
8. Make sure your wallet is full of cash so that the new year will bring you more money.
9. No cleaning on New Year’s Day or you can clean out good luck (no laundry either).
10. The first person to visit your home on New Year’s Day has significance. It is considered good luck for a man to be the first person to cross your threshold (you have to let him in; he shouldn’t use a key to let himself in). It’s even better luck if he’s tall and good looking with dark hair. First footers must not be cross-eyed or have flat feet or eyebrows that meet in the middle…hear that no unibrows HAHA!
