Happy Thanksgiving…I HATE TURKEY!

That’s right you heard it here first…I HATE TURKEY! Now you’re probably thinking WTF how on earth can anyone hate turkey but I’m telling you I do. Ok fine, it’s grown on me a bit over the years but we aren’t friends not even acquaintances lol…but enough about me and my hatred for turkey it’s Thanksgiving here in Canada so let’s talk about that 😉 .

Thanksgiving, a time for reflection, family and friends. It’s a time when the whole family gathers together, eats wayyyyyy too much food (stuffing, mashed potatoes, baked ham and apple pie are my thing) and you give thanks for everything you’ve been blessed with. Thanksgiving was never my fave holiday, to be honest it was one of my least faves for many years but that changed back in 2011. It was my Samantha’s first Thanksgiving, my first child, my first Thanksgiving as a mom and instead of taking it all in I was getting updates from my mom who rushed my dad to the hospital. After an emergency surgery and a series of tests the bomb was dropped on us…my father had colon cancer. Nothing in life prepares you for news like this. It shatters your heart into a million pieces, you don’t know if you are coming or going and you fear what the future has in store. I just remember thinking how cruel life could be for doing this to me, my family and my daughter (who was just a few months old). It took some time but I got over that hate, pain and anger realizing that I was going about this all the wrong way. Instead of looking at all the good that surrounded me and instead of counting my blessings I was focused on the not so good news we were now faced with. We were lucky and blessed that the doctors acted so quickly and although the outcome was still shit it could have been a lot worst. Since then my views on life have changed and as a result I have changed as a person.

Here we are 3 years later, I now have two beautiful daughters and we are celebrating Thanksgiving together as a family with my dad…something that some aren’t able to do. So before you start looking at all the bad and asking “why, why me?” think “why not you?”. I’m a strong believer that God will never give you more than you can handle in life, you just need to trust and have faith. Look at all the beautiful things you have to be thankful for…your life, your family, your children, your friends, a roof over your head, and food on your table just to mention a few. No matter what it is you are facing in life and no matter how horrible it may seem just remember that there are people out there who are dealing with a lot more so start counting those blessings.

Be humble, be kind, be grateful and BE THANKFUL!

Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving from my family to yours xo
